Teaching steps:
Step one: Presentation
1.Draw a birthday cake on the blackboard and ask the students “ What is this?”
Tell them “It’s a birthday cake. We often eat it to celebrate our birthday.” Then write “Birthday” on the blackboard.
2.Ask the students “ Do you like your birthday?” “Why?”
T: We can get some presents from our friends or father and mother.
What do you usually get for your birthday?
Ask the students to answer this question in Chinese. And write their answers on the blackboard.
Then take out some things what the students have mentioned and teach new nouns “ cardtoychocolatebirthday”
Lead the students read these new words several times.
Step two: Practice
Ask the students to imitate my questions “What do you usually get for you birthday?” Try to answer with their words
Encourage some groups to act their dialogues out.
Step three: Presentation
Ask the students to open their books to page62 and look at the Reading part.
“Boys and girls please look at the pictures in the part. Who is the girl? Does she look happy?Maybe her birthday is coming soon. If you are her friends don’t forget to bring her some presents.” Repeat the last two sentences. Teach and explain “looksoonforget”.
Step four: Listen and comprehension
T: Millie’s birthday is coming soon, but when is it? Boys and girls please listen to the tape and find the answer to this question.
Play the tape again and check their answers. Then ask the students to answer two other questions “ What does Millie usually get for her birthday?Would Millie like to get a CD for her birthday?
Lead the student read the text then asks some pairs to act the dialogues.
Homework:
Please list your birthday presents. You can also bring your favourite one to the class and talk about it with your classmates. If you fall across some unfamiliar words please look them up in the dictionary.

Step1. revision
Talk about their birthdays.
Ask: what do you usually get for your birthday?
What would you like to get this year?
Step2. Presentation
Talk about Millie. Millie is going to have a birthday party.
There are many kinds of food in the party.
What would you like to eat?
Show the cards of the food one by one.
Ask: Would you like some bananas? / ice cream / orange juice / cades /…..
Write them on the blackboard.
Ask them read after the teacher.
Step3.Listening
1Talk about the picture in Part B
Who is in the picture?Millie and her mum.
What are they talking about?They are talking about what to buy for Millie’s birthday party.
Listen to their conversation and try to complete their shopping list.
2.Play the tape twice. Then complete the shopping list.
At last check the answers
Step4. Report.
According to the shopping list.
Ask some students to tell us about the shopping list in their own words.

Step 3 Practice
Get the students to ask and answer the questions. “ What do you want to buy?I want to buy .../ I’d like to buy…
Step 4 presentation

The teach helps the students to answer “After school/ Tomorrow/ Today…

2.The teacher writes the new sentences on the blackboard and get the students to ask and answer in pairs.

Get the students to listen to the tape and then answer the questions.

Revise the expressions and the dialogues they learned last class.
Step 2 Presentation
Present the new words by talking about the pictures.
T: Let’s look at the pictures for Millie’s birthday party. What can you see on the table in picture 1?
S: I can see CDs, hair clips……
T: How does Millie look?
S: She looks very happy.
T: Look at picture 2. What’s this? It’s a sofa. Where are the girls?
S: They are in the sofa.
T: Let’s look at picture 3. What birthday presents does Millie get from her friends?
S: Millie’s friends have CDs, a teddy bear……for her.
T: Let’s look at picture 4. What is Millie going to do? She is going to make a wish and cut the cake.
Write the new words and expressions on the blackboard. Read and explain them.
Step 3 Listening
Listen to the tape and match the passages with the pictures.
Step 4 Reading
Read the text carefully and answer the questions in part B, and read the text freely.
Step 5 Practice
Write some key words of each paragraph on the blackboard, divide the whole class into four groups, ask them to retell the text.
Step 5 Production
Let them describe the four pictures in their own words.
